Two "Epic" beers!

The state monopoly have during the last months released three beers from the Epic brewery - Mayhem, Armageddon IPA and the Thornbridge Stout. I have tasted the Mayhem and Armageddon and, as you can see from the tasting notes below, I was deeply impressed by the quality. Will be back with a tasting note of the stout later.

X49 - Epic Armageddon IPA  (New Zealand)
A rather big, open, deep nose with lovely notes of sweet tangerines, freshly cut grass, almonds and a touch of banana. Has a nice sweet/sour note. Very deep and mouthwatering good. Rock/mineral/gravel after a while. Very, very good.
The taste is big and fruity but very fresh at the same time with lots of sweet yellow fruit, tangerines, melon and that fresh mineral note in the end of the taste. The bitterness is high but it doesn´t overwhelmes the fruit. Long and balanced. A great beer!
I just love the comment on their website about the alcohol level - "6.66% (the number of the yeast)" :-)

No 84 - Epic Mayhem  (New Zealand)
Just woooooow!! The nose is intense, deep and just perfectly powerful with gorgeous notes of sweet grass, heather honey, blood oranges and masses of ripe peaches. This is a stunning beer on the nose. Hedonistic and complex at the same time.
The taste is so fresh, so pure and so good that I just close my eyes and go "aaaaaaaaaah"... What flows over my palate is liquid peach ice cream, lemons, limes, white pears and wet rock. The bitterness matches the fruit perfectly. Drop dead gorgeous!
